Once you have a good understanding of your topic, you will want to begin using databases to search for articles in academic journals.  If you're unsure what subject your topic falls under, you can try one of these databases.  Make sure that you check the box that says 'Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) Journals' to find scholarly articles.

SocINDEX is a sociology database with peer-reviewed articles. It's a great place to search for topics related to social inequality, human behavior, relationship dynamics, gender, race, etc.

 

PsycINFO

PsycINFO is a scholarly psychology database. While there is a lot of overlap with SocINDEX, this database is geared more toward psychology, mental health, developmental stages, etc.

If your topic falls under a specific topic, you will get the best results if you search databases that are specifically for that subject.  Remember to check the box that says scholarly or peer-reviewed articles.
