As part of the study, we asked the community to write us with their memoirs of the 1918 flu epidemic. Because the story was picked up in several newspapers across the country, responses came from various corners of the United States. Below find packets of letters in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. Letter Packet 1 - Sleeping in tents to avoid the flu; a quarantine in Fox Lake; a terrible Christmas; lots of chores when the family is sick.

Letter Packet 2- Take your shoes off and wash your hands with Fels Naptha; protective powers of onion soup; lung pumping.

Letter Packet 3- A young widow; a crate of oranges; blackberry brandy. (Editor's note: Prohibition was not put into effect until January 19, 1920)
